WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?
Sustainability is making sure that we take care of our environment. If we don't take care of the Earth then our lives won't be great. The air will be polluted, making it hard to breathe. The sea will be polluted, killing all the sea life. And we won't have clean water either. This is why it's so important to take care of our lovely home!
Some ways we can be sustainable is tO REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE. YOU MAY KNOW THESE AS THE THREE R'S.
Let's START WITH REDUCE. THIS MEANS WE SHOULD TRY AND REDUCE OUR WASTE. FOR EXAMPLE, USING REUSABLE CONTAINERS INSTEAD OF CLING WRAP OR NOT USING PLASTIC STRAWS. SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE ARE ALL IT TAKES TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF WASTE IN OUR BINS.
THEN THERE'S REUSE. THIS MEANS WE SHOULD TRY AND REUSE THINGS INSTEAD OF THROWING THEM AWAY. FOR EXAMPLE YOU CAN TURN AN EMPTY MILK BOTTLE INTO A BIRD FEEDER.
NEXT IS RECYCLE. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. RECYCLING ISN'T THAT HARD. IT'S JUST MAKING SURE YOU PUT ALL THE THINGS THAT BELONG THE RECYCLING BIN IN THE RIGHT PLACE. IT CAN ALSO. MEAN RECYCLING THINGS ON YOUR OWN. TAKING SOMETHING OLD AND TURNING IT INTO SOMETHING NEW THAT YOU CAN USE FOR A LONG TIME.
HERE ARE SOME ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH SUSTAINABILITY!
LEAF CONFETTI
Make confetti by hole-punching leaves. When you're done with it, throw it in the compost or garden bin, where it will decompose and become soil that can be used for planting trees and other plants. This way, it isn't going to landfill.
SUSTAINABILITY POSTER
Make a poster talking about sustainability and why it is so important. Put it where everyone can see it. Make it very colourful and eye-catching!
